Biograpy AKB48

 The culture of a pop idol is something Japan can boast to the world, among which a tradition of 'an idol group' that is made up of a number of members has been inherited through the years. Twenty years after the success of Onyanko-Club as the first group of its kind, AKB48 was exclusively created by Yasushi Akimoto, a producer who had set the trend.

The biggest selling point of AKB48 is that they are 'an idol group that fans can go see'. The group have their own theater in Akihabara to perform shows almost every day, and three groups of them - named Team A, Team K and Team B respectively with each team consisting of 16 girls - appear on stage in turns. AKB48 has created an original culture in which pop idols and their fans can interact with one another day and night in Akihabara, the heart of geeky otaku culture.

AKB48 debuted with a single "桜の花びらたち / Sakura no Hanabira tachi" in February 2006. Since then they have released numerous hit songs including "スカート、ひらり / Skirt, Hirari" and "制服が邪魔をする / Seifuku ga Jama o Suru", attracting a broader range of people even outside Akihabara.
